On Goodreads description of this book the caution reads in part, "Some heavy emotional scenarios, including ones of abuse might be difficult to read." That shouldn't be taken lightly. Ms Logsdon's writing style is raw and real and pulls no punches. Whether it's an abuse scene or a love scene, the reader will see and feel it. She is very descriptive of the small town, the sweet people, the "villains," the beautiful house of Lex's, etc. She could have cut a little bit of her descriptions down, but it wasn't enough to bore me or keep me from wanting to continue reading. I was totally into this book.
LEX is a complex unconventional woman. Because of her past abuses (first, from her father, then, her ex-boyfriend) she is a closed-off, strong, independent, successful businesswoman. Though she looks very sexual by the way she dresses, she has kept that part of herself locked up; meaning, no boyfriends since her abusive one, seven years ago. Counseling and the love of her mother and best friends, Roni and Lincoln, pulled her through and now she is strong, in control and leads a very orderly life. She likes order. It gives her the control she needs to feel safe.
All of a sudden her secure world is emotionally changed when she is talked into joining an online dating site. From her interactions from that and work she meets men she is attracted to and who are attracted to her. Thank goodness for her three "people" to help walk her through the emotional turmoil she faces.
LEX slowly reveals herself to you, layer by layer. The book actual starts out pretty hot and I was afraid it was going to be "all sex and no substance," but I was wrong. This book deals with some pretty controversial issues. Be prepared with tissues for saddeness and laughter and a fan for the very steamy, sexy hotness in this book. It is a book about learning to trust, love and be loved again and, most of all, acceptance. There are many characters of many degrees you will meet; most you will love, a few you will want to punch in the face.
I love that this author chose to give us this book in one long book (so be prepared for that) instead of breaking it up into two or three and making us wait; which means, no cliffhangers! *round of applause* This is a standalone, however, the next book in this series is LINCOLN. I'm looking forward to that (hoping I get to review that too!) I fell in love with that hunk of a man! *sigh* This is a truly UNIQUE story. A storyline I have never read or heard about before. If you have an open mind, can deal with some heavy topics and like a lot of laughter and heat, this book is for you.
Note on editing: There's a few editing and grammar issues but nothing to keep you away from this totally unique book.
