**New Release** Vacant ~ An Empathy Novella ~ Ker Dukey ~ Kat's Review ~

vacant release banner   Vacant Divider book info

Title: Vacant (an Empathy novella)
Author: Ker Dukey
Genre: Dark Erotica
Release Date: March 30, 2015

Ryan

When two dark souls connect the draw is too dominant to ignore and the obsession of owning the only color to brighten my dark world too unrelenting to not obey. I left her alone so she could live a normal life but I was weak, how can she live a normal life after so much sinister chaos invaded her world, summoning her own darkness to the surface? The depraved devil that is me now had an anchor, someone to venture into the black abyss with. Normal wasn’t a path ever set for Cereus. She was her Father’s daughter but my soul mate, even if I disputed ever owning one. She was struggling without me in her life, the vacant ache inside her leaking out. I can’t not go to her, the need is too strong and like with all of my urges I embrace it.

I  hope by now you have read this twisted, dark series to understand this twisted, dark novella. Ryan and Cereus are uncle and niece who have found each other after family has tried to keep them apart.

Believe, me, had I been in Cereus' parents shoes, I would have done the same thing, however, Ryan being the person he is, found her, got to know her, and for some unknown reason, even to himself, found a connection to one lone person on this earth, and she became "his" to care for and protect.

Until this series, I had never read Ker Dukey's writings, but I had heard all good things about her dark, twisted world, and of that world I wasn't let down. She can get you into that world and you want to read until the story is finished. I had only one spacial problem in this book that wasn't really explained. Now, I do realize we weren't always dealing with reality, so please know I am not talking in those instances, but on a whole, the spacial problem was minor and this last and final book just added the last twisted, dark aspect of this whole series.

Ker has her own way of writing that minimizes what isn't important to the story and brings out what is important to keep the story from dragging and that is very important to a story such as this, because, believe me, you aren't always sure when you begin reading a passage, what is real and what is in the head of the character...yes, it is a very psychologically twisted book, so be prepared for when Ryan and Cereus play with your head...or is that Ker? ;)

This book and series isn't for the faint of heart. You need to psych yourself up for this type of read. But, if you can stand a dark and twisted world, do give this book, this series, a try. Then your next few reads need to be something loving and sweet. Just Sayin'...

I have always had a passion for storytelling, whether it be through lyrics or bed time stories with my sisters. I wanted to be an actress growing up so I could live many roles but I learned early on that my mind was too active… I would want to change the script.I would watch films and think of ways they could of improved the story if they took another direction so i thought it best that i tell my own.

My mum would always have a book in her hand when I was young and passed on her love for reading, inspiring me to venture into writing my own. I tend to have a darker edge to my writing. Not all love stories are made from light, some are created in darkness but are just as powerful and worth telling.

When I’m not lost in the world of characters I love spending time with my family. I’m a mum and that comes first in my life but when I do get down time I love attending music concerts or reading events with my younger sister. You can find me on Facebook where i love interacting with my readers.

**Release Day ** Undeniable Love ~ Kelly Elliott ~

Tristan Williams thought the path of his life was on the right journey. He had a successful career, good looks, and a carefree lifestyle. One conversation changed Tristan’s way of thinking forever as his father presented him with a bottle, representing his journey and forcing unwanted thoughts of a lasting relationship to the surface. Running from the fear of commitment, he pushed away the only woman he ever had feelings for and turned to the one girl he knew he didn’t love.

Ryn Webster was finally putting her past behind her. Moving to Texas and concentrating on the success of her own company, she had her life almost where she wanted it. One thing was missing though…love. She thought she had found love with Tristan until he casted her aside.

After being hurt by Tristan, Ryn does whatever she can to push him from her heart, even if it means being with a man she doesn’t love.

Regardless of the path one thinks they are on, the journey of life can cause unexpected turns, altering the planned course. Will Tristan and Ryn’s bottle be tossed about, lost in the rocky waves of life? Or will calm seas prevail to help Tristan and Ryn finally find their journey of love…together?

I wasn’t dating Liberty when I was with you at Christmas. It’s always been an off and

on relationship with her.” Dropping his head back he let out a frustrated breath

before looking at me. “I got confused, Ryn. I started feeling things … I mean … I had

feelings for you that I’ve never had for any other woman before.”

Oh my. That was not what I was expecting. My stomach flipped a little but I was sure

as hell not going to let this prick know that. “I see, so these feelings caused you to

call your other part-time girlfriend. Makes total sense. You’re such a prick.”

I started walking away from him. His hand grabbed my arm and I let out a gasp from

the instant tingles that spread through it. “Ryn … can you please just stop?”

I stopped walking and stood there. “I have nothing to say to you, Tristan.”

“You wouldn’t take my calls. I tried to call you for months. Do you know how pissed I

was when you were dancing with that dick …”

Spinning around, I placed my hands on his massive, hard as a rock chest and pushed

him as hard as I could. He stumbled backwards, but was able to keep from falling.

I wasn’t sure if I was pissed or if the hurt was all re-surfacing. “Fuck you, Tristan!

You fucking called another woman and told her how much you missed her for Christ

sake! You ignored me. It was if I was no longer there. No talking to me, no kissing

me, you didn’t even look at me!” I quickly wiped a tear away.

Tristan’s face looked pained as he took a step closer to me. “No!” Shaking my head, I

whispered, “No. You don’t get to try and make up for that now.” Turning, I quickly

made my way back to the beach house I was renting. And to Dodge, the only man

who could make me forget about Tristan Williams, at least for a little while.

Kelly Elliott is married to a wonderful Texas cowboy who has a knack for making her laugh almost daily and supports her crazy ideas and dreams for some unknown reason...he claims it's because he loves her!
She’s also a mom to an amazing daughter who is constantly asking for something to eat while her fingers move like mad on her cell phone sending out what is sure to be another very important text message.
In her spare time she loves to sit in her small corner overlooking the Texas hill country and write.

One of her favorite things to do is go for hikes around her property with Gus....her chocolate lab and the other man in her life, and Rose, her golden retriever. When Kelly is not outside helping the hubby haul brush, move rocks or whatever fun chore he has in store for her that day, you’ll find her inside reading, writing or watching HGTV.

*New Release* Fix You ~ Beck Anderson ~ Donna's Review ~

Adult Contemporary Romance
New release from Gallery Books (Simon & Schuster) March 2015
Previously released by Omnific Publishing

In this modern-day Cinderella story with a charming twist, a young widow with two rambunctious sons falls for a gorgeous movie star. But can she handle life in the limelight?
When Kelly Reynolds’s husband died two years ago, he left her to raise their two young boys. She’s barely pieced herself back together and takes refuge in her routine, running her kids around town and running the trails near their Idaho home.

A chance encounter on a trail run brings famous actor Andy Pettigrew into her life. He’s clearly interested in her, but Kelly hates risk, and a love affair with Andrew is certainly tempting fate. She doesn’t fit into his Hollywood world. She doesn’t own a pair of Louboutins, and she couldn’t walk five steps in them if she did. Andrew oozes cool. She reeks of dork.

Despite this, they click. But Andrew struggles with the pressures of his fame, and Kelly’s hold on a so-called normal life is already tenuous. So as much as she wants to indulge the fantasy, she doesn’t know how either of them is supposed to cope with stalkerazzi and tweet-happy fans with camera phones. Especially when she and Andrew both have secrets that seem impossible to keep…

This is a re-publication of Fix You. I don't know how it differs from the 2013 release. My review pertains only to the 2015 release.

Kelly Reynolds is a 36 year old widow raising two young sons, Hunter and Beau. They live in Boise, IA. While the boys have adjusted to the death of their father 2 years ago, Kelly is still finding it difficult to really live life and be happy.

Andy Pettigrew is 29 years old and an A-list, big box office, leading man who lives in LA. He knows something is missing in his life. Surrounded by so much phoniness and shallowness, he longs for a real connection.

When they meet in front of a coffee shop while Kelly is on a morning run, she doesn't realize who the kind, helpful Andrew really is. When they meet again, Kelly recognizes him and can't believe she is actually talking with a heart-throb actor. Andrew and Kelly begin a relationship which is idyllic when they are in Boise. When they are in LA and dealing with Andrew's star status, events seem to conspire against them. Kelly and Andrew do have their supporters: Hunter and Beau, her best friend Tessa, her parents, Andrew's bodyguard Tucker, and his agent Jeremy.

Between Kelly believing she is too old and boring, expectations of how Andrew should act and who he should be seen with in order to further his career, and Andrew's own demons, can they find their happily-ever-after?

This is a terrific story. It has characters with depth. Kelly and Andrew are both fighting against being engulfed by darkness but they are not dark and depressing. They have strength and integrity that make them real. Their relationship involves Hunter and Beau as integral pieces, not as merely an afterthought. The boys behave like normal, well behaved kids. They aren't perfect but they are respectful, fun-loving, mischievous, video game loving boys. Kelly's parents and Tessa are supportive and want her to be happy. They also worry about her but try not to meddle. The culture shock Kelly experiences due to Andrew's celebrity status is important to the story but Kelly is never portrayed as a country bumpkin with no idea how to act or dress. That was so refreshing. All of these things bring a richness and reality to Fix You that is lacking in some romances. Heck, it is often lacking in any genre.

I don't know if Beck Anderson will ever revisit these characters but I hope she does. They still have so much to do, I think another book would be a wonderful gift to readers. That is just my opinion but I can hope, can't I? I definitely look forward to reading more books by this author when they come out. For now, I will have to make do with having only one more book to read: her second novel, The Jeweler.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good story. It is so much more than just a romance.

5 Stars

Beck Anderson loves to write about love and its power to heal and grow people past their many imperfections. She is a firm believer in the phrase "mistakes are for learning" and uses it frequently to guide her in writing life and real life.

Beck balances (clumsily at best) writing novels and screenplays, working full-time as an educator, mothering two pre-teen males, loving one post-40 husband, and making time to walk the foothills of Boise, Idaho, with Stefano DiMera Delfino Anderson, the suavest Chihuahua north of the border.

**Release Promo** Sidelinded ~ By His Game Series ~ Emma Hart ~

SIDELINED EMMA HART AMAZON KINDLE EBOOK COVER (1)

Three people. Three motives. Three reasons.
When the game leaves the field in the second book in the USA Today bestselling BY HIS GAME series and mixes with sex, lies, and betrayal, the future isn't the only thing on the line...

Macey Kelly has sworn off men. Unless they’re going to zip in and out of her apartment—and her vagina—quicker than they can give her an orgasm, she’s not interested. Finding out her boyfriend of three years got her cousin pregnant was a total confidence knock. Luckily for Macey, confidence is
something she has in abundance, so all Mitch’s asshole move did was make her pretty cynical toward men.
The last thing Jack Carr needs at the start of the season is for a dark-haired, sexy as sin, gyspyesque beauty to be consuming his thoughts. Football is his life, which leaves no time for girls. Unless they’re the love ‘em and leave ‘em girls. Becoming one of the best running backs the league has ever seen by racking up the yards is his top priority… not bedding Macey Kelly, despite her affinity for blow jobs and total sexual abandon.
Avoiding each other is the perfect solution, but when your best friends are in a serious living together kind of relationship, that isn’t always an option. Sometimes, sex on tap is the easiest option. And the sweetest.
Until Mitch shows up with a bombshell that could shatter Macey’s perfectly carved out life. It’s been a year, but he isn’t giving her up, not now he has a chance at winning her back. And he knows her buttons. Every single one of them.
Unfortunately for him, Jack Carr isn’t a loser. The star running back has his eye on the Vince Lombardi—and on Macey. But seeing her hanging between them both isn’t something he’s down with, not when he discovers why she’s so against anything more-ish, as she puts it.Macey quickly realizes she’s the ball being passed between two desperate yet opposing teams, and that only one of them can score the touchdown. But will the winner be the guy she lived with and loved for three years, or will the winner be the guy who understands her and makes her body come alive?
In this game, someone will be sidelined, and calling the play isn’t always as easy as it seems.

(SIDELINED is a full-length, standalone novel. It's not necessary to read BLINDSIDED before this book, but it is advised.)

“Mitch.” I spit his name like the poison he is. “Seems he has a message for me.”
“Doesn’t matter,” Macey mutters, walking into the kitchen.
She reaches for the tequila bottle, but I dart forward and spin her so her back is against the counter. No way is she drowning her shit in a tequila bottle this time. No fucking running.
“Leah says otherwise, so, M, why don’t you tell me about his message for me?”
“I said it doesn’t matter!” Macey’s eyes flash with an anger and vulnerability stronger than I’ve ever noticed before.
“It does to me!” I yell, leaning into her. My eyes search her face. “It fucking matters to me, babe, so spit it the hell out.”
“I said. It. Doesn’t. Matter.”
“I say you’re full of shit.” My mouth moves to her ear. “You gonna tell me or do I hafta fuck it out of you, huh? I’m not averse to either, but his name could really kill the mood when my cock is inside you.”
Macey shoves at me and I release her. She storms away from me, toward her room, then stops. “You wanna know? You really want to know what that asshole has to say to you?”
“Believe me, babe. I’d love him to say this bullshit to me. Seems he’s a pussy who has to use his ex-girl to tell me though. So let’s paraphrase. I’d love to know what that asshole has to get you to say to me, okay? Enlighten me, baby. Go ahead.”
“‘Tell your fuck buddy he’s playing to win a whole lot more than the Super Bowl this season,’” she whispers. “Or something along those lines. Close enough, I guess.”
Every nerve in my body goes on high alert. Electric jolt after jolt booms through me, my adrenaline peaking with his threat. The threat he can’t even fucking say to my face. More than that, every protective instinct in my body roars to life louder than an MC club starting their bikes. I feel those words crawling over my fucking skin, almost paralyzing in their determination but laughable in their weakness.
“Baby.” I move toward Macey, determined, certain, strong.
She breathes heavily, her eyes screwed shut, her fists clenched at her sides.
“Look at me.”
She shakes her head.
I grab her jaw and force her head up. “Look. At. Me.”
Her eyes open, and in them, I see a roaring sea of fear and uncertainty tinted with resignation to the words she expects. The words she won’t hear.
“What?” Her whispered word is barely audible.
“If you don’t know the rules, you don’t play the game,” I rasp. “Now, Mitch? He thinks he knows the rules. He thinks he can come back into your life and dictate shit his way. I think he’s sorely fucking mistaken, because he has no idea who he’s messing with.” My fingers creep around to the back of her neck, and her back flattens against the wall. “I play a game every day of my life, baby. I know more rules than you can ever believe exist. He thinks he can meet you for a half-assed drink and threaten me? He’s a joke. I laugh. Really, I do.”
“What?” she breathes again.

“If your fucking ex thinks he can walk back into your life, into my life, and threaten me with taking something that is inconceivably, irrevocably, indisputably fucking mine, he has the shock of his life coming to him.” My words are growled into her ear. “Let him play, baby. He has no idea what he’s just done.”
GOODREASONWHY

From Emma Hart, the New York Times bestselling author of the Game series, comes a brand new series where the game is realer, the tension is tighter, the sex is hotter, and the stakes are the highest of all…
Two people. Two agendas. Two games.
What happens when the out-there It-Boy of football meets the secret It-Girl of fashion?
As the daughter of Hollywood’s sweetheart, Leah Veronica can’t even buy a coffee without finding her face on a magazine stand, so it’s no wonder she’s launching her first fashion line in secret. With it debuting at New York Fashion Week in just under a month, extra time in the spotlight is the last thing she needs.
The son of the best quarterback the league has ever seen, filling legendary shoes as the L.A. Vipers’ quarterback was inevitable for Corey Jackson. So was meeting Leah Veronica—the first girl to hand him his ass without putting a hair out of place.
Getting the handsome, prickly blonde into his bed becomes his number one goal. But getting the sexy, over-confident footballer the hell away from her becomes Leah’s—at least until she realizes the best way to do that is to give him what he wants.
If only it was that simple.
When Corey discovers who she is, and private photos of Hollywood’s finest find their way online, everything they thought they knew is thrown into disarray.
And when secrets are exposed and hearts are shattered, they have to figure out if they’ve been blindsided by love or reality, and if it’s worth running the extra yard to win the game they never meant to play.

By day, New York Times and USA Today bestselling New Adult author Emma Hart dons a cape and calls herself Super Mum to two beautiful little monsters. By night, she drops the cape, pours a glass of whatever she fancies - usually wine - and writes books.

Emma is working on Top Secret projects she will share with her followers and fans at every available opportunity. Naturally, all Top Secret projects involve a dashingly hot guy who likes to forget to wear a shirt, a sprinkling (or several) of hold-onto-your-panties hot scenes, and a whole lotta love.
She likes to be busy - unless busy involves doing the dishes, but that seems to be when all the ideas come to life.
