HOW IT ROLLS

Synopsis~

Despite the odds, Reed Wolfe is making it, by the skin of her teeth. Her dreams and aspirations will have to wait until she can get on her feet. Because right now she’s homeless and churning on a downward spiral.

Falcon Black is existing. Not living, not thriving, just jutting along a path. But when he finds Reed, he can’t resist the urge to help her, lighten her load. But Falcon tends to go overboard, over the line, crossing boundaries he never thought he would and risking her trust in the process.

Can she accept his love or will it end up smothering her?

DOWN 'N' DERBY

Synopsis~

Maddox is running.

By accident, he discovered long ago that he was adopted as a baby and his need to find his biological father has consumed him ever since. Now, on a road trip, determined to find his father and his sanity, and armed with locations and his cousin, Nixon, to help him, maybe he can find the answers he’s been searching for. With nothing but a suitcase and a wad of cash to get him there, lead after lead takes him further from home.

But he’ll find much more than he intended.

He finds Storey, a pint sized pin-up model who has learned painful lessons about guys. Her wounds run deep, but so do his. She knows what she wants, but will she recognize it when it’s right in front of her?

Maddox can’t touch anyone without feeling like his skin is crawling, but just maybe his instinct to protect this amazing girl will supersede his own hang-ups.

If he can brush her skin and start to feel alive inside...everything will change.

Excerpt~

He got up after that but turned around after a few steps later and gave me one last piece of his pitiful mind. “You’re cute all right, but damn, what a wench.”

I was prepared to shrug him off. I was usually called the ice queen or frosty by guys and this was just one more instance where I could care less what he thought of me. But Suntan had a different plan. He stood up as the pig was passing and said something in a voice so low and deep that I couldn’t hear the words. But whatever it was Pig didn’t like it one bit. He shoved Suntan back a few steps and I could tell he let that happen. If he wanted to, he wouldn’t have moved one inch. The other guy with him now stood up behind him, jeering him on. “Kick his ass, Maddox.”

“Don’t touch me again and you should apologize to the lady. Where I come from we don’t call women that name—ever.”

The guy laughed and got closer to him, “I’ll talk to her any way I want to. This isn’t Hickville, this is California.”

Before I knew what was happening, Maddox, I now knew his name, swung the guy around, bolted him in a headlock and they were both storming towards me. I could feel my eyes grow to the size of silver dollars. What was he doing?

He made the guy come to a stop in front of me and then clipped the back of his knees with his foot which made Pig kneel in front of me. “I asked nicely,” Maddox said to him through clenched teeth, “Now I’m asking not nicely, apologize to the lady before you pass out.” He mumbled a sorry and I accepted, I think. I was so shocked I could hardly speak.

Amy's Thoughts~

Maddox is a mystery man. At first glance, particularly, in the previous books, he was the funny guy, the one who always made light of any situation. Could make anyone laugh. Maddox is a pretty tormented guy. He's held on for so long wondering about his real father, that he's on mission to find him. To find the answers to his questions. He hopes he's not hurting his family in the process. What no one knows about Mad, is that he gets an itchy feeling when he touches other people, even his family. He doesn't feel cold. Almost as if he is so tormented he's blocked out all feeling.

Storey, wow, what a MC! She's a derby princess, but for the past few years, she's been playing a pin up model to pay for college. She's got the pin up glamour down pat, and boy can she work it! The great thing about Storey? Even though she's famous, she's totally down to earth, looking forward to the end of her contract & the normal things in life. Maddox and Storey meet by pure chance that they have ended up on the same beach. They are instantly attracted to one another, but Maddox is terrified that if he touches her he will get that feeling again. It's a wild ride to go on with Maddox as he discovers new things about himself and about his love for Storey and his family.

I've gone on and on about Lila Felix in my previous posts. And really, what else can I say? She has a way of telling a story that reader is so immersed in it that the lines between reality and fantasy blur. I have loved every book that she has written and she truly has a fan in me. I can not wait until the next book in the Love & Skate series.

Interview with Lila Felix~

1. What or who inspired your passion for writing?

Books, a lifetime love of books.  And my family, I wouldn’t be a writer without them.

2.  Where is your favorite place to write?

At first I wrote in my recliner, then as I started writing more and more, I can just about write anywhere.  But my favorite place is at my desk surrounded by coffee and my iPad opened to the thesaurus app.

3. Where do you find your inspiration?

Real life.  I’m one of these observant people.  I can just sit at the mall and people watch.  The stories just pop up in my brain.

4. Do you develop your characters before writing or do they just flow naturally?

I know who they are before I write them.  I know them so well.

5. Do you listen to music as you write, if so, what bands?

I listen to music from the time I get up until the time I go to sleep.  Lately, my fave bands are Phosphorescent, Noah and the Whale, The Pretty Reckless, The Heavy and the Neighbourhood.

6. If you could see your characters from Love & Skate on the big screen, who would play them?

Oh, wow.  I have no idea.  I would just be excited to have it be a movie.

7.  Do you have any quirky habits you do while writing? If so, What are they?

I usually wear my husband’s Lowe’s #48 hat when I’m writing.  I always have coffee.  And headphones—headphone are a must.

8. Do you have any tattoos? If not, what would you choose if you got one?
I don’t.  My husband has over a dozen but I don’t.  I’m too afraid of needles.  If I could have one, I would get a quote from Pablo Neruda, my favorite poet and an anchor, I love the old school anchors.  My husband has two.

9. Who are YOUR favorite authors?

Shelly Crane, Rachel Higginson, Anne Eliot, Anne Hargrove, Claire Farrell, Rachel Deagan, Katella Stegmann.

10. If someone wanted to get started writing, what advice would you give them?

Work your butt off. Write until your eyes cross and your fingers bleed. (Not really, but you know what I mean) Don’t depend on anyone else to do the legwork for you, it’s not their book, it’s yours.  I repeat do the legwork.  Send emails to bloggers, do promotional giveaways, take full advantage of social media networks (Facebook, Twitter, Goodreads, Spotify, IHeartRadio, Pinterest, Tumblr), find a group of authors that you can rely on for advice and help.  Then write, write, write some more.
