**REVIEW** Whistlin' Dixie ~ Tempered Steel Series Book 1 ~ Maggie Adams ~ Donna's Review ~

A man on a mission....

Mackenzie Coalson was determined to rebuild his hometown after a devastating flood left it in ruins. He has no time for a relationship and all the romantic junk that goes with it. He has a vandal to catch and no sweet smelling bundle of femininity is going to sway him.

A woman protecting her family.....

Dixie Harris charged into the county sheriff's office with a sassy sway and a smart mouth, eager to give the sheriff, and anyone else, a piece of her mind. When she locks horns with the devil himself, in the form of Mac Coalson, she quickly learns he has a temper to rival hers, even if he's the living epitome of her sexual fantasies.

When the two unite to catch a potential murderer, it's in everyone's best interest to keep it, "business only". But that's hard to do when their combined attraction is volatile enough to burn down the town.

Mac Coalson is a man determined to bring his hometown back to life after massive flooding. He isn't about to let anyone get in his way. Not even Dixie Harris--the petite new Kindergarten teacher. When they meet, sparks fly. They are both hard-headed, obstinate, quick tempered, and push each others buttons.

Mac and his brothers are one of several construction companies rebuilding Grafton. However, Coalson Construction is the only one being targeted by vandals. As the situation escalates, they tend to be one step behind the culprits.

Whistlin' Dixie is a mystery with twists and red herrings. It keeps you guessing. It is also a romance. I wanted to shake both Mac and Dixie and tell them to quit jumping to conclusions and stop fighting their attraction. One minute they were hot for each other, the next they were angry. Their romance was a real rollercoaster ride. Never boring!

The supporting characters were interesting. I loved the way Ginny took no crap from her boys and could put them in their place. The family dynamics were believable and I enjoyed their interactions.

My only complaint was I would have liked a little more character development. More background information to flesh out the story. That is my opinion and others may not feel that way.

I enjoyed the story and recommend reading it. It is not a standalone. The story continues in Leather and Lace where the romance centers on Sam Coalson and Angel Devereaux and the mystery continues.

4.5 Stars

Mac stared at her uninhibited display of passion. She was lost in a haze of desire. He had made her feel this way. She was beautiful. She instinctively lifted her arms to welcome him, wanting more. God, he was the luckiest man in the world.

He leaned down to trace her areola, so pink and perfect, with one finger. Dixie grabbed his finger, sliding it down her torso. Mac smiled and slid his finger down to her clit, circling the swollen bud, but never touching. His finger slipped lower.

“God, baby, you are so wet,” His voice was a low growl, his control quickly deteriorating.

“That’s good, right?” she whispered, suddenly shy.

“Oh, yeah, baby. It’s perfect.” His finger invaded her again, his breath harsh and hot as he leaned over her. He removed his finger and brought it to his lips. “And you taste so sweet. I knew you would be sweet.”

Hi! I'm Maggie Adams. I live near St. Louis, MO with my high school sweetheart, Ned, and my wonderful kids, Katie (Kyle) and Ross (Valerie). My life is like a walking, talking sitcom from I Love Lucy, but I love it, although people do tend to keep their distance from me! Writing has always been my dream, with reading my favorite hobby. I try to include a little bit of my life in everything I write, so when you read my books, keep your eyes wide open - I'm in there somewhere! Happy reading!

  1. HI! I wanted to thank Donna for the awesome review of Whistlin' Dixie! I'm so glad you liked it. As the first in the series, I have lots of ideas how to keep the passion, and the mystery continuing throughout. So look for more from Mac, Dixie, and the whole Coalson clan!
