**Review** Waiting on my Reason ~ Devon Ashley

She loves him. He loves her. But sometimes love just isn't that easy...

Everything happens for a reason. I just wish I knew the why behind mine.

Five years ago, graduation wasn’t what it was supposed to be. Publicly humiliated, Melanie was more than happy to kiss off her high school sweetheart. But in doing so, she lost more than just her boyfriend, she lost the only other guy she truly cared for – his best friend, Shane.

Shane loathed the idea of returning to his small hometown. He just wanted to get in, help his best friend manage a legal matter, and get the hell back out again. But he wasn’t expecting to run into the one girl who got away, who always held a piece of his heart despite the animosity that lingered. Melanie could’ve been the one, but after everything that happened, trust was a serious issue.

She just wanted to do right by her son. He just wanted to do right by his best friend. And just when they thought they could find the strength to forgive the sins of the past, more secrets and lies bubble to the surface, threatening to push them irrevocably apart.

Waiting on my Reason is Melanie's story. Five years ago, Melanie lost everything dear to her. She lost her boyfriend, the respect of the people in her town, and someone she thought was her best friend. Over the next few years, she also lost her parents. Life hasn't been one shiny star like she thought it was going to be. She struggles daily. And then Shane shows back up, determined to uncover secrets from the past and find out what's really going on.

I found this to be a very emotional read. What would you allow people to say about you, just to keep the peace? I know we are all taught not to let the things that others say get to us, but to be called vicious names, all because of a story that's untrue? Could you hold your tongue? I couldn't. I would stand up loud and strong and shout from the rooftops what really happened. Melanie chose to do the opposite. She chose to keep quiet ignore the stares, ignore the whispers, and go on with her life. She loved silently, she weeped silently. Such a strong brillant character.

Shane always loved her. And then she betrayed his best friend, so he's hated her. But what if what he believes isn't the truth? What if he's been lied to and manipulated all these years? Can he get the facts straight and find the real story? Shane was a very shallow character in the beginning of the book. Believing the age old adage of one side of the story. Casting stones so to speak. He learns and grows throughout the book. And he definitely redeems himself.

Devon Ashley has written a beautiful love story, a timeless one. She's developed strong, deeply emotional characters that grow and learn from one another. In this story, you will experience love, friendship, grief, sorrow, sympathy, & forgiveness. Truly a fantastic read that I will read time and time again.
