The Kelly Group International (KGI): A super-elite, top secret, family-run business.
Qualifications: High intelligence, rock-hard body, military background.
Mission: Hostage/kidnap victim recovery. Intelligence gathering. Handling jobs the U.S. government can’t…
Eden is said to be one of the most beautiful women in the world. Her face has graced countless magazines and her body has sold millions of dollars of clothing. But her fame and beauty has earned her more than she ever imagined. Evil is stalking her, determined to extinguish the ethereal beauty forever.
Swanson or “Swanny” as his teammates call him is always up for the next mission. He came back from Afghanistan wounded and scarred. Hardly the kind of man who even belongs in the same room with Eden. And yet there’s something about the quiet beauty that stirs his blood and makes him dream of the impossible. Because Beauty loving the beast only happens in fairy tales and KGI doesn’t deal in fairy tales. Ever.
I was rather anxious to read and review this one. I am always hesitant to review someone like The Maya Banks. I mean come on, she's phenomenal, what could a little ole reviewer from Kentucky have to say? Ya know what I mean?
So I adore the KGI series (thanks Tonya ;) ). Adore it. It's an addiction. We've got sexy, bad ass, military guys - kickin butt, takin' names, & rescuing the damsel in distress. Who doesn't love that?? I never - EVER - thought I would say this, but...
I was disappointed with Swanny's book.
With the KGI series, readers have come to expect a couple of things. 1. The aforementioned hot, sexy, military guys (check that off the list) 2. Damsel in distress (check) and finally 3. Kick butt and takin' names (no check here). And yes, I'm fully aware I just repeated myself. There was very little fighting in this book. There was very little interaction from the entire Kelly family. Very little interaction with the brothers. There was also several key characters missing from this book that we generally get an update on in a KGI novel. It was more of a babysitting job than it was a recon mission. I feel as though I was jipped.
While the story itself was indeed a great story, it's just not what I have come to expect from the KGI & Maya. Please, I am not discouraging you from reading this story, it is after all a piece of KGI. I am warning you that it's not a typical KGI addition.
Maya Banks and KGI is my #1 favorite series. I love the Kelly men and all they stand for! The "strays" that have been adopted into the family are loved just as dearly. Swanny had a rough go of it for quite a while. But coming into the family and the KGI team was just what he needed. But I was quite disappointed with his story. I felt this book repeated itself constantly. There was hardly any action that we're use to. And nil to nada from the other brothers. This is 1 you will have to read to judge for yourself. But it definitely wasn't the typical KGI story we're all use to.
Maya Banks is the #1 New York Times, #1 USA Today and international bestselling author of over 50 novels. A wife and mother of three, she lives in Texas.
Amy,
ReplyDeleteThis seems like a very interesting book. Its a shame it didn't turn out to be better. Hopefully the next book is better for you.
