frozen secrets

by~ W. S. Greer

Synopsis~

Detective Jarrod Granger is a homicide detective with the Anchorage Police Department, investigating a slew of murders in the city. The killer is stabbing his victims 19 times each, and cutting out their tongues, and he has already struck three times. Detective Granger's own past may get in the way of his present and future, but he and his partner, Detective Misty Lawrence, must trudge through their tumultuous work relationship to track down the killer who has been dubbed The Tongue Snatcher.

Stacey Alexander is a guarded 26 year old unnatural redhead, who is unshakably loyal to her father Vincent. She works day in and day out to take care of Vincent since he has been diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer, and she would do anything to keep him safe, even when she meets a detective who is quickly falling for her. But, Stacey and Vincent have a dark secret; one that bonds them together more than any "normal" family. And soon, Stacey will have to choose between protecting the father that she loves, or accepting the love of the detective who is zeroing in on a familiar target.

Amy's Thoughts~

When I come upon a detective inspired murder mystery. I compare every one of them my personal favorite mystery writer - James Patterson. When Tonya pushed this book at me, I was reluctant to say the least.

It was brought to my attention that we were getting the EXCLUSIVE on this book. Which is HUGE for us, it's a first. So I had to read it.

I managed to read it within a few hours. Topping out at around 300 pages, I was so captivated that I was almost late for work! Then as my color client was processing, I had my nose back in my iPad trying to figure out the mystery.

Jarrod Granger IS the next Alex Cross. I really don't think I need to say much more than that. W. S. Greer, I hope is going to turn this into a series and bring me more Jarrod & Marcus. They can be a great team when they aren't butting heads. I hope I get to see more of their fun times.

While this book is mostly murder mystery, there IS a romance story to it. And a good one. This is one of those books that I put off and put off and put off until the last absolute minute to read, and how I WISH I would have opened it up the first day I got it.

Props to Greer for an amazing debut!!! I can't wait to read more!

Excerpt~

“I don’t mean to be nosy again, but, how is your dad doing? Is he okay?” I asked.

Her expression hardened again. “No. He’s getting worse. I know he doesn’t have much longer. The chemo isn’t doing anything but making him worse now. It’s only a matter of time.”

Stacey put her head down and I saw tears forming in her eyes as she started to silently sob. I wanted nothing more than to console her. I wanted to tell her that it was okay to cry and be upset, and that I knew what she was going through. I wanted to tell her that if she wanted, I would be there for her every day, even if she wasn’t sad. I wanted her to know that she was the first woman that I had ever had a real connection with in my entire life. She was special, and I needed to tell her.

Suddenly, Adam delivered the pizza to our table, and I lost my nerve and my opportunity to tell Stacey anything. When Stacey noticed the arrival of the food, her head snapped back up to attention. I noticed her eyes, immediately. They were completely dry. Either Stacey was good at hiding her emotions, or she was never crying at all. I didn’t know which one it was.

About the Author~

W. S. Greer

I am a new, independent author currently living in Anchorage Alaska, as an active member of the United States Air Force. I have been in the Air Force for 9 years and have been writing since 1995, when I was in the 5th grade.
My whole life, I always wrote poetry and music, and it wasn't until I started reading books in June of 2012 that I had aspirations of becoming a author.
My Wife of the last 10 years, Roxanne, is also an aspiring author, writing her first novel, and it was by her influence that I began reading and falling in love with characters and books. I have her to thank for all of my success, both as an Airman, and as an Author.
My 2 beautiful children, Janae (8), and Justin (6), both are very supportive of both my military career and my 2nd job as an author and I love them both so very much. And I look forward to taking my entire family along on this amazing journey that I know is waiting for us in the near future.
I want to give a special thanks to all of my family and fans that have shown so much support. You guys mean the world to me and I appreciate all of the love and support more than I could ever explain!! My passion for writing grows daily and I look forward to bringing you all the crazy stories I have in store. It’s going to be a great ride!

~~ Just a side note from Tonya & I.... Thank you for your service to our country~~

Interview~

WHAT INSPIRED YOUR PASSION FOR WRITING?:
I started writing when I was in the 5th grade and it was music that was my inspiration. A little secret that most people don't know about me is that I can actually sing. Like, seriously sing. So I wrote a lot of love songs and poems and became really good with word arrangement and word play. Luckily it transferred over when I decided to write my first book, Frozen Secrets. I always loved writing, and once I started reading, I knew I had to give writing a book a try.

WHERE IS YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO WRITE? Any place that is quiet. Other than that, I don't have a preference. Give me coffee and give me quite, then I can give you a great book.

DO YOU DEVELOP EACH CHARACTER PRIOR TO WRITING THE BOOK OR DO THEY FLOW NATURALLY? I develop the main characters before I start writing, but only the main characters. With Frozen Secrets, I developed Detective Granger, Stacey Alexander, and Vincent Alexander before I wrote anything else. Every other character in the book came to life on their own once I was already writing.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE AUTHOR? I don't think I have just one favorite. I love Harlan Coben, Linwood Barclay, Suzanne Collins, Lisa Gardner, and Gillian Flynn. I love me so thrillers!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE TIME OF DAY? As long as it's not first thing in the morning, I love it and I am happy. Not sure if I have a favorite, but first thing in the morning is my least favorite.

DO YOU HAVE ANY QUIRKY HABITS YOU DO WHILE WRITING? My wife tells me that when I'm thinking, my eyes wander and I starting looking all around the house, especially the ceiling and the floor. She says it's weird. Lol.

WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST STRENGTH/WEAKNESS? My greatest strength is my open mindedness. I believe it makes everything possible for me. My greatest weakness is that I am a notoriously bad procrastinator. I'm trying to change that... I just never seem to get around to it.

DO YOU HAVE ANY TATTOOS? Oh yeah! I have 9 tattoos and counting. I love tattoos. Every one of mine are either religious or about my family.

HOW DO YOU BALANCE WORK, HOME, LIFE AND PERSONAL TIME WITH YOUR WRITING? I have absolutely no idea! Between work my gym time, my kids and my wife, I'm not sure how I have time to do it. I write before I go to bed and keep writing until my brain starts to shut down on its own. Somehow it works.

IF YOU COULD GIVE ADVICE TO SOMEONE...? Don't force anything. Everything needs to come naturally... the plot, the characters, the dialogue, the idea for the cover, everything. When you don't have to think about it, you know it came from the heart. I didn't think about the plot for Frozen Secrets; it just came to me one night when I was outside shoveling snow. Those are the ones that you know are going to be special.
